Next year will be the Ford Mustang's 60th birthday. A milestone like that can't go without a celebration, so Ford is rolling out a limited-edition appearance package it calls––drum roll, please––the Mustang 60th Anniversary Package. And while it would have been nice of the Blue Oval to launch some sort of Shelby model just in time for the model's anniversary, this package is still a worthy nod to the big birthday with elements inspired by the original 1965 'Stang shown off at the 1964 World's Fair in Flushing, New York.

"We took inspiration from the original Mustang and applied some of the most special design elements to the latest in this limited production run," said Matt Simpson, general manager for Ford Enthusiast Vehicles. "Mustang’s design DNA has never been stronger or more enduring than this multi-generational tribute."

Of course, it has the usual splattering of special badges on the front fenders, rear tailgate, and interior trim. Aside from that, there are exclusive 20-inch Dark Gravity Grey wheels with aluminum center caps in Vermillion Red, while a stripe decal that reads "60 years" runs along each rocker panel. The latter can be had in either Iconic Silver or Vermillion Red. The grille also has a special mesh design with a silver detail finish for the "nostrils," and the headlights receive smoked housings carried over from the Nite Pony package.

The Mustang 60th Anniversary is available in a choice of three colors––Wimbledon White, Race Red, or Vapor Blue. Cars finished in Wimbledon White receive paint-colored mirror caps, while the other two paint options come with an Iconic Silver finish for the mirrors. As for the interior, customers can choose from Carmine Red, Space Grey, or Black Onyx.

The 60th Anniversary edition is based on the Mustang GT Premium, which means it comes with the mighty 5.0 liter V8 engine and functional air intakes within the silver-finished "nostrils." The package can be applied to either the coupe or the convertible, and it is compatible with both the automatic and manual transmissions.

Ford is only building 1,965 examples of this 60th Anniversary model, which serves as a cheeky reference to the Mustang's first full model year. Order books will open up this summer, before deliveries start in the fourth quarter of 2024. Pricing will be announced closer to then. And for those who already have the latest Mustang, Ford is also rolling out a software update with a heritage-inspired theme for the digital gauge cluster.
