BMW became a catalyst for today's luxury SUV craze when its first X5 crossover rolled off the line at the Spartanburg, South Carolina plant. Whether you call it a blessing or a curse, that influential event will have happened exactly 25 years ago next year. That means the BMW X5 will be celebrating its silver jubilee, and as a result the automaker is gifting its popular SUV with a Silver Anniversary edition for the 2025 model year.
The limited-edition X5 sets itself apart with numerous visual upgrades. While it's based on the xDrive40i trim underneath, the exterior is a combination of the Sport and M Sport packages, and the whole car is finished in exclusive Lime Rock Grey paint from BMW Individual. As for those mixed exterior packages, there are 20-inch two-tone wheels adding a pop of silver from the M Sport package, which matches up with the silver anniversary theme. BMW refrained from adding the M Sport's sportier bumper and rocker panel designs, and instead limited things to the aforementioned wheels and the dark Shadowline trim. Meanwhile, on the rear tailgate, a silver anniversary badge indicates that this is in fact no ordinary X5.
The interior comes with a host of color options for the upholstery, which include black, gray, cognac, or coffee. The center console takes its carbon fiber finish from the X5's M variants, and it's adorned with a Silver Anniversary plaque for an extra touch of exclusivity.
While the cosmetics inside and out already make this special-edition X5 stand out, things get even more exclusive beneath the sheetmetal. There, the X5 adds a completely new xOffroad package, which is currently not offered on any other SUV models from BMW. As its name suggests, the purpose of this package is to enhance the X5's off-road performance, and it achieves that by making use of the SUV's air suspension and by adding a mechanically-locking rear differential and extra underbody protection.
Aside from the xOffroad package, other off-road-oriented features on the X5 Silver Anniversary edition include a roof rack, all-weather floor mats, a mat for the luggage area, and a trailer hitch. There are also more familiar features to to further enhance the luxury appeal, including remote start, heating for the front seats, armrests, and steering wheel, a Harman-Kardon surround sound system, and the Parking Assistance Package. After all, it's highly unlikely that anyone will be taking this off the pavement.
BMW is only making 1,000 units of the X5 Silver Anniversary edition, and the SUV will open up at $81,075 when production starts in August.
