The ID.Buzz, Volkswagen's highly-anticipated, Microbus-inspired electric van, is finally coming stateside after its intitial debut for the European market. The German brand has confirmed that the big reveal will take place in California this June, with the retro-style van slated to arrive at U.S. dealers for the 2024 model year. The American ID.Buzz will feature a longer wheelbase than the Euro-spec version, allowing for a third row of seating to suit America's never-ending thirst for larger vehicles.
From the outside, the U.S. version will be nearly identical to Europe's ID.Buzz, save for larger sliding rear doors to fit the elongated wheelbase. Inside, a 7-seat layout will be offered as standard equipment, as opposed to the two-row setup in the European version.
It has also been confirmed by Volkswagen that a larger body equals a larger battery pack, as the U.S.-spec ID.Buzz will boast a larger battery pack and more output than the European version's 77.0-kWh unit. A single electric motor mounted on the rear axle will be the standard powertain, producing 201 horsepower. A dual-motor, all-wheel drive setup is expected to be offered as well, likely producing the same 295 horsepower as the all-wheel drive ID.4.
The long-awaited ID.Buzz will at last reach U.S. shores in June, with more specific details on the American version expected to be announced around the same time.
