Stellantis has made it very clear that the days of the Hemi V8 are over, and now it is releasing six-cylinder successors to those models left and right. The latest of which is the replacement for the wild Ram 1500 TRX, which will be known as the RHO and pack a version of the Hurricane twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six tuned to make over 500 hp. It's not the 702 horses that resided in the TRX's stable, but it's something.
In a 15-second video uploaded to YouTube, a Ram 2500 Rebel is shown parked in a desert with another camouflaged truck sitting on a flat-bed trailer. That truck's bulky build is recognizable from under the covers as some sort of TRX successor, though the clip cuts to the April 25 reveal date before we can see any other major details.
The RHO will be very similar to the TRX it replaces, offering the same equipment save for variations in suspension tuning. The biggest difference, of course, will be the absence of the 702-hp Hemi V8, with the Hurricane twin-turbo straight-six taking its place under the hood. The 3.0 liter engine will be tuned to make around 550 hp and 521 lb-ft of torque.
While the RHO will be serving as our performance-oriented Ram for now, CEO Tim Kuniskis has hinted at the TRX's return in the past. He said that the six-cylinder version's lower output made it unfit for the TRX moniker, and that the name would only make a comeback with numbers to match or even exceed the outgoing model's 702 hp.
