Mercedes has always been setting standards with their S Class flagship sedan, and now those standards are being set again. The new 2021 Mercedes S Class is here, featuring fresh, new styling along with five different screens and the next generation of the luxury brand's MBUX software. Not only are there five screens, but they are five big screens. The main infotainment system measures a Tesla-rivaling 12.8" size, while the digital gauge cluster measures 12.3". Two screens are also set up in the rear, along with an MBUX tablet built into the center seat (when pushed down). Two powertrains have been revealed so far, including the S500 4MATIC's 3.0 liter turbocharged inline-six and S580 4MATIC's 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8. They both pack a mild-hybrid system as well as a nine-speed automatic transmission.
A new E-Active Body Roll suspension keeps the ride smooth and leveled, as well as raising the body when an impact is detected. More accident-preventing features include the ability to manage speed, following distance, lane-changing and steering. While the car handles most of the driving situation, drivers and passengers can relax in one of the most comfortable interiors being offered today. The seats are approved by the Healthy Seating campaign, while there are also ten massage options and an optional Burmester 4D sound system. there also also three different seating arrangements: static bench, comfort seats with adjustment, or executive seating.
The new S Class is disappointing design-wise, with the previous generation being more upscale-looking and less plain. Also, Mercedes new design language features horizontal taillights, rather than vertical ones, which we're having a hard time getting used to. The sedan is 1.3 inches longer and 2 inches wider than before, allowing a more roomy interior and 19 cubic feet of trunk space. But, Mercedes added a new rear-axle steering system that reduces the turning radius to just 6.2 feet. Pricing and other information has not been released, but to get an idea of the price, the current base model starts at around $94,000. With the 2021 S Class's revolutionary tech, the base price could pass $100,000 next year. It should arrive in early to mid-2021.
