The Chevy Bolt EUV was first teased last year, being compared with the Bolt EV hatchback, which has been on sale since 2017 and is now getting a refresh to match the Bolt EUV. The Chevy Bolt EUV is an all-new crossover version of the popular Bolt EV hatchback.
The two new EVs share the original Bolt's platform, called BEV2. Chevrolet has explained that they don't utilize the new Ultium battery architecture because it is completely new technology, and the Bolt is four years old at this point. The EV and EUV may have similar styling, but they don't share any sheetmetal with each other, and in fact, the Bolt EUV is six inches longer than the regular Bolt. The EUV also has a higher stance, bolder central crease line, cleaner body lines, and standard roof rails. The Bolt EV gets thinner headlights similar to the EUV, updated front and rear light signatures. The window line extends further than it used to, this time reaching the fog lights connected to the headlights.
Both vehicles get a new interior with a larger 10.2" screen, updated digital instrument cluster, electronic gear shifter, and revised controls. The re-sculpted steering wheel includes a "Regen on Demand" paddle that allows one-pedal driving. Heating and ventilation are now available in the noticeably more comfortable seats (the previous model was known for having uncomfortable seating). Only the EUV includes a panoramic sunroof. three additional inches of legroom compared to the Bolt EV as well.
Both the Bolt EUV and EV have a permanent magnetic drive motor accompanied by a 65-kWh per hour lithium ion battery that produces 200 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque from the front wheels. The Bolt family's range stays with the EV's 259 miles on one charge, and the EUV's 250 miles on one charge. Chevy is looking to make charging much easier, too. A dual-level charging cord comes standard on the Bolt EUV and is available on the Bolt EV so that buyers won't have to make an entirely different purchase for a home charger. A 120-volt three-pong outlet (for Level 1 charging ) and 240-volt outlet (for Level 2 charging) are included. They charge up to 7.2 kilowatts. For 11 kilowatts, you will need to buy a separate charger. On DC fast chargers, Chevy boasts that the Bolt EV adds 100 miles of range within thirty minutes, while the Bolt EUV can add 95 miles of range in that time frame.
The Chevy Bolt EUV and EV are the first Chevy models to feature Super Cruise driving assist. It allows 200,000 miles of hands-free driving in the US and Canada. Chevy Safety Assist is standard on both models, and it includes automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist forward collision alert, land departure warning, IntelliBeam high-beam assist, front pedestrian braking, and a following distance indicator. Chevy managed to reduce the Bolt EV's MSRP without getting rid of any major features. It starts at $31,995. The Bolt EUV is slightly more expensive, starting at $33,995. A Chevy Bolt EUV Launch Edition will be loaded with all of the car's available features, and it will cost $43,495.
The Chevy Bolt EUV will sit alongside the refreshed Bolt EV this summer as a bold new option that is bound to attract more customers. Chevy says, "this is an opportunity for [us] to capitalize on the success we've built with the Bolt EV and bring new customers into the Chevy family."
