2022 Kia Sportage Teased With Completely New Look, Modern Interior

Writer: TurbochargedTurbocharged

Kia has been doing great lately, with amazing designs churning out of those design centers, better quality, and groundbreaking tech. The Korean automaker has just released teasers of the latest addition to their Opposites United design direction, the Sportage crossover. Kia states that the new Sportage "challenges design norms with an adventurous yet contemporary exterior." They describe the interior as "beautifully detailed and pioneering."

The vehicle in the teasers is the global model, which will debut on June 8, while a dedicated European variant will arrive in September. The exterior design is looking to be very different as we thought, and will look nothing like it ever has. The short, sedan-like greenhouse that the Sportage has been wearing for almost ten years is gone, replaced by a wrap-around look with blacked-out D pillars. A large tiger nose grille spans the front end of the new Sportage, until it reaches the very unique LED headlight signature. The lights surround the top and left-hand side of the actual headlamps until it reaches the wide lower grille. Another image of the next-generation midsize crossover reveals the bold taillights. They feature a small vent near the bottom edge, and lose the connected light bar from the previous Sportage. The LED taillight signature bears a backwards C shape, which somewhat touches the thin black accent that runs across the tailgate. A small roof spoiler acts as the cherry on top for the new Sportage's exciting design.

The interior of the new Sportage drops everything that the 2021 model carried, replacing the old touchscreen with a curved glass display that encases both the digital instrument cluster and main infotainment system. This design is also seen in the electric EV6, Carnival MPV, K5 sedan, and overseas K8. Some physical buttons remain, to the relief of those who despise huge touchscreens in their cars. Kia says that the Sportage was inspired by "an ethos where nature meets modernity," and that "with [the] new Sportage, we didn't simply want to take a step forward, but rather move to a completely different level within the SUV class."
