2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Arrives To Save The Day

Mitsubishi knows it isn't doing well in the US market, where it used to shine. They already launched the facelifted Eclipse Cross and Mirage, as well as an all-new Outlander Sport. The last piece in the puzzle is the 2022 Outlander three-row. The new SUV comes with fresh sheetmetal, a new interior (from the Nissan parts bin), and more technology to make it relevant again. You can probably assume that Mitsubishi based the new Outlander off of the Nissan Rogue crossover, too.

The new Outlander receives the Dynamic Shield design direction that is seen on other Mitsubishi models, giving it a bold, but maybe too bold, look. The proportions of the updated crossover are much improved, trading in the old model's lazy roofline for a more sturdy one. Your eyes probably can't get past the ultra-thin LED running lights, connected by a sleek chrome accent to the actual headlight housings. The rear end is a whole different story, with a quite generic taillight design, yet broader rear bumper. The new Outlander now includes eight color options, such as Black Diamond finish, which gives off a shining sensation when touched by light.

Mitsubishi gave the Outlander a 2.5 liter V6 engine, as well as a CVT transmission. 2WD versions receive four driving modes, Normal, Tarmac, Gravel, and Snow. The 4WD version adds the Mud driving mode. The revised suspension has become rigid, increasing stability. There are also 20-inch wheels that are optional, but 18-inch ones come standard.

You'll also find the brand's MI-PILOT driving assistance technology, available with lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beam headlights, traffic sign recognition, trailer stability assist, hill descent control, forward collision mitigation and predictive forward collision warning, multi-view cameras, and driver attention alert.

The new Outlander still seats seven people, but the longer wheelbase and wider stance allows for more space. For example, the front seat legroom has increased by 1 inch, while rear legroom has increased by 1.1 inch. The interior is coated in real leather, and the gear shifter is coated in aluminum. The ES trim level offers fabric seats if leather isn't your cup of tea. The second-row seats can be folded faster, offering 80.3 inches of cargo space with both the second and third row folded.

The Outlander now has a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 10.8-inch head-up display. The car's 9-inch infotainment screen is borrowed from the Nissan Rogue, which is compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A smaller eight-inch display is offered as standard, though. Wireless phone-charging, a 10-speaker Bose audio system, and three-zone climate control throughout the interior are offered as well. A power panoramic sunroof is also optional.

The Mitsubishi Outlander offers a large amount of technology and convenience features, as well as a refreshed design. All of this is definitely going to bring the Outlander back to the top. We would think that this all comes with a large price, but no. The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander starts at just $25,795. Talk about value for money. The automaker is already hauling new Outlanders to dealers all over, as the release date is set at this April.
