2023 Honda HR-V Breaks Cover With A More Sophisticated Design

Honda's smallest crossover, the HR-V, moves on to its next generation with improvements in performance, design, and interior space. The redesigned car is separate from the global version sold in Europe and Asia, which gave Honda the opportunity to make the HR-V more appealing to American buyers.

Based on the latest Honda Civic, the 2023 HR-V gains updated powertrains, which are said to give the car "a more refined and fun-to-drive personality." Honda didn't specify which powertrains the new HR-V will have under the hood, but expect it to use the Civic's 2.0 liter four-cylinder. Along with the more eccentric driving manners, a new independent rear suspension will soften the ride when potholes threaten to ruin it.

The updated crossover also has a cleaner design, including a longer hood and an extended greenhouse. The latter highlights the HR-V's lengthened wheelbase while improving visibility from for both the driver and the passengers. Now that the greenhouse reaches beyond the C-pillar, the rear door handles have become more conventional, and are now aligned with the front door handles. Not only does this make it easier for rear passengers to enter the vehicle, but it also makes the overall design appear more symmetrical. A straighter, more defined belt line sits lower on the car, and promotes the simplified styling. The HR-V's rear bumper also bulges out more, which creates a more athletic stance, especially from the side view.

Further details, including performance specs, powertrains, interior details, and pricing, will be announced closer to the 2023 HR-V's summer release.
