There's no doubt that the Mazda 3 is the best-looking contender in its class, which has earned it a couple of awards over the years. But looks aren't everything, and Mazda acknowledges this with some tweaks for the 2023 model year.
The small updates for the 2023 Mazda 3 lineup is particularly for trims equipped with the non-turbo 2.5 liter engine. Models with this naturally-aspirated setup gain five more horsepower for a new total output of 191 hp, as well as 186 lb-ft of torque. The 3 is also now more fuel efficient, thanks to updated cylinder deactivation tech. This results in an improved EPA fuel economy rating of 28 mpg city, 37 mpg highway, and 31 mpg combined.
Turbo models may be missing out on these upgrades, but it's worth noting that they still produce higher outputs of 227 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque.
Luckily, the six-speed manual gearbox remains for 2023, but only the 2.5 S Premium Package in front-wheel drive hatchback form offers it this time around. Every other trim will have to make do with a six-speed automatic, paired with either a front-wheel drive setup or all-wheel drive, which is exclusive to the Premium and Turbo models.
The naturally-aspirated 3 will start at $22,550 for the 2.5S sedan, with the hatchback setting you back an extra $1,000. Turbo models start at $32,450. The hatchback will arrive in the fall, while the sedan is coming to dealers in the winter.
