The legendary Hummer is back for the 2022 model year, with the Edition 1 pickup arriving this fall. GMC has just revealed the Hummer SUV, which will cost you $105,959, but you won't see it until early- to mid-2023, and that is just the Edition 1. The cheaper trims will gradually arrive in 2024, much like the Hummer SUT pickup truck.
The GMC Hummer EV SUV will seat five, and feature removable roof panels and a spare tire in the back, similar to its (sort of) predecessor, the Hummer H2. It also has large 22-inch wheels, side steps, and floor liners, and it is 8.9 inches shorter than the otherwise identical Hummer SUT. Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving and Crab Walk four-wheel steering, arguably the most attractive parts of the Hummer, come standard on the Edition 1.
Performance figures are lower than the pickup, though, likely due to added weight from the trunk. The Hummer SUV has approximately 300 miles of range, which is twenty miles more than we previously thought, but a staggering fifty miles less than the SUT. Also, the SUV can only reach 830 horsepower (which is still great), 170 less than the SUT. GMC admitted that this is because of the smaller battery pack and shorter wheelbase. It is also capable of reaching 0-60 miles per hour in a swift 3.5 seconds. GMC hasn't released much information on charging yet, but they did mention that the latest Hummer can utilize 800-volt DC fast charging.
Back to on-sale dates and availability, the Hummer SUV's lower-end EV2X trim will be released in spring 2023 with an MSRP of $89,995 and 625 hp, while the slightly more expensive EV3X will reach the market in a similar time frame, boasting the Edition 1's output of 830 hp. The base Hummer, the $79,995 EV2, will reach us in almost three years, in the spring of 2024. It has the same specs and charging capabilities as the EV2X slotting above it. Although, increased range and battery size is optional in the EV2, limiting the power for the price. All trims except for the EV2 can add the $5,000 (on Edition 1) extreme off-road package, which includes 18" rims with whopping 35" mud-terrain tires, rock sliders, skid plates, rear motors that act as a locked diff, a front electronic locking differential, heavy duty half-shafts, and the Hummer SUT's handy underbody cameras. That is definitely all you need to conquer any type of rough terrain. Of course, Crab Walk and Extract mode can both be checked off on the options list as well.
Online reservations for both the Hummer SUT and SUV can be made on GMC's website, with production commencing in 2023 at GM's recently renovated Factory Zero plant. The pickup variants will be delivered to their owners and be available for regular purchase as soon as this fall. More details will be announced this Monday (April 5th), as the actual reveal will happen on that day. We will update this article with new details and photos soon.
