Audi's fun, little TT sports car and sharp R8 supercar have both been on shaky ground for quite awhile, and now that Audi's 'Project Artemis' is underway, the duo is facing more trouble. What also doesn't help is that the models are also dealing with rapidly decreasing sales, Audi's immediate need to cut costs, and lack of redesign (not that they need redesigns). Could the TT and R8 be dropped completely, being replaced by EVs?
The TT coupe was supposed to morph into an all-electric 'E-Tron TT', but as Audi is reviewing their model portfolio, anything could be dropped. It's not only the TT and R8 that are at risk, but the entire combustion-engine lineup is on shaky ground. Audi is reportedly looking to substantially alter their MLB platform, which is the base of almost everything; from the A3 to the A8, Q2 to Q8. There are 30 EVs coming to Volkswagen Group by 2025, 20 of them being fully electric, while the other 10 is to be hybrid/PHEV.
As Audi is looking to save money by reducing vehicles, now is probably not the time to turn the TT and R8 into EVs. So, are the performance cars staying or leaving?
