Bugatti is on the ropes right row, as VW Group plans to sell it off to hypercar startup, Rimac. Bugatti's budget is currently limited, and the development of hypercars is pricey as it is. This almost forces Bugatti to make the tough decision of canceling the Chiron's companion in the automaker's small model portfolio. Bugatti's CEO confirms this in an interview. "We had talks about a second-model lineup. This was now blocked due to the coronavirus crisis; we're not talking about what's coming next."

Another big problem Bugatti must face is the lack of a fully electric offering. It's not like Bugatti can't solve the issue either, as the new Lotus Evija and Rimac C_Two run on all-electric powertrains. If, and only if Bugatti is sold off to Rimac, it might not be as bad as enthusiasts fear; Bugatti must offer an EV sooner or later, and that's Rimac's specialty.

Even though things seem very problematic for the 100 year-old performance brand, sales are the best ever with full order books for few-offs such as the Divo, Centodieci, and La Voiture Noire. We hope to hear more about Bugatti's future soon, as their CEO hasn't yet commented on VW's interest to sell them to Rimac.
