Cadillac Will Only Sell EVs By 2030

Cadillac has revealed the amazing production version of the Lyriq electric crossover, and the luxury automaker brought a mind-blowing announcement to the event. Cadillac’s Global Vice President stated, "We will be leaving this decade as [an all-electric] brand, as things stand today, which means we will not be selling [gas-powered] vehicles by 2030." GM‘s aim for 2035 sounded ambitious enough, but Cadillac feels confident that they will do better as an EV-only brand.

The reason that Cadillac is going all-electric so soon is because they only offer passenger cars. Other automakers under GM, like Chevrolet and GMC, include heavy-duty models like pickup trucks in their lineup, and customers will still want V8 engines in those vehicles. All of GM’s trucks will have to be electric at some point, though.

Besides the new 2030 goal, all of Cadillac’s new models will be EVs, which means we won’t see any more new gas-powered Cadillacs. This is sad for those who hoped for an updated XT5 or Escalade V, but the future will bring some incredible new models, with the Celestiq flagship sedan being the next reveal. The luxury brand isn’t so worried about competition from Lincoln or BMW though, as they have stated that their current gas lineup is good enough to get through the next decade. We’ll see about that. So far, the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq is very close to the concept version, so pre-orders should be expected to pile up. But, as for CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing buyers, you’d better hurry up.
