Chevy Lets Us Hear The C8 Corvette Z06 Roar

The eighth generation Corvette saw a sharp rise in popularity as it had switched to a mid-engine layout for 2020. This fall, Chevrolet will reveal the new Z06 performance variant, the first of many to come. The automaker released their first Corvette Z06 teaser, and rather than hinting at the design or performance figures, they gave us a look (or listen) at the scream of its powerful new 5.5 liter V8 engine.

The new C8 Z06 will feature a flat-plane crankshaft that creates a higher-pitched rev than the Stingray's cross-plane V8, like what is seen in Ferrari's cars. You'll find a detuned version of the powertrain in the C8.R race car, which was first shown in the latest iteration of the Project Cars video game franchise. The 5.5 liter V8 will produce up to 600 horsepower and revs between 8500 and 9000 rpm. It will reportedly be paired with an eight-speed DCT (dual-clutch) automatic gearbox.

In terms of design, that exciting "vroom" you hear in the 2023 Z06 doesn't come without improved aerodynamics to boost performance. We expect a hood scoop and more intakes to prevent overheating and give a cooler vibe, as well as a lower, even wider track, larger rear wing and exhaust tips (likely as options or in several configurations), and a slightly revised lower grille in front. Inside, we expect only minor differences to the C8 Stingray, such as racing-focused seats, tweaked badging and upholstery, and a more intriguing digital gauge cluster, if the Z06 will even have one.

The latest and greatest addition to the C8 Corvette family is almost here, and we can't wait for that beautiful engine rev to be heard in person. Chevy says the 2023 Corvette Z06 will be unveiled this fall, and sales could begin as early as this coming winter with an MSRP of above $80,000.
