The Hyundai Veloster has been the brand’s most interesting model ever since it entered the hatchback segment around 2011. Its unique set of three and a half doors has always raised eyebrows, but that isn’t the main reason of declining sales. As we all know, SUVs and crossovers continue to increase in popularity, and Hyundai is responding with the facelifted Santa Fe, redesigned Kona and Tucson, and all-new Palisade. Although Hyundai shows no signs of giving up on sedans, they have already killed off the Elantra GT hatchback in the US market. They have also gotten rid of the mainstream Veloster in Canada and most of Europe.

What raises suspicion is that Hyundai is hardly placing any deals on the Veloster, according to Cars Direct. There are no APR incentives, lease deals, or rebates being offered for the hatchback as of now. In fact, the only current Veloster deal is the Final Pay incentive, which is meant to clear inventory. It seems to be very affective, as there are only 200 examples remaining on dealer lots across the country. Interestingly, most of the examples left are Veloster N hot hatchbacks, telling us that Hyundai might only be discontinuing the regular Veloster, as they recently did in other markets.

Cars Direct did reach out to the automaker, though they responded saying that all 2021 Veloster trim levels are “in dealer/port stock.” If Hyundai is planning on letting the Veloster go in the US market, it would likely be the 2022 model. Veloster sales fell about fifty percent last year, with a mere 7,581 examples finding homes. That makes up a very small piece in the company’s 622,269 total 2020 sales. Don’t be surprised if Hyundai cancels the mainstream Veloster for the 2022 model year, as many automakers discontinue their hatchback models in the US market in favor of SUVs and crossovers.
