The Kia Telluride is an absolute hit, with buyers willing to pay thousands of dollars over MSRP. In order to keep this crossover's great popularity going, Kia has updated the Telluride for 2023 with an updated exterior, an overhauled interior, and an even longer list of features.
The 2023 Telluride keeps its good looks, as the design changes are not too major. Up front, the rectangular DRLs have been replaced by two vertical lines, and the standard LED headlamps have been repositioned. The tiger nose grille has changed only slightly, with a more rugged mesh design. The front bumpers undergo the biggest adjustments, with a reshaped lower grille, redesigned fog lights, and new air intakes. The side view remains mostly the same, aside from the updated side sills. New wheel designs are also available across the entire trim lineup. At the back, the taillights have been darkened, and the LED lighting signature has been tweaked. The reverse lights are now located on the revised rear bumper, next to the new reflectors. Kia has also added three colors to the Telluride's palette: Midnight Lake Blue, Dawning Red, and Jungle Wood Green.
The cabin is where the most changes occur, and they are big improvements over the current interior. The aging tablet-style 10.25" touchscreen has been replaced by a high-tech curved display, which houses dual 12.3" screens. The infotainment is the same, but the larger display will keep the tech looking fresh. An all-new digital instrument panel is a much-needed addition, but it is only available on select trims. Below the screens, redesigned air vents now span the entire dashboard, and the trim panels have been revised as well. The steering wheel is also new, and the interior color packages have all been refreshed.
The Telluride also gets more tech for 2023, including an updated suite of advanced features from Kia Connect. Digital Key allows the owner to unlock the vehicle with the smartphone, and a new Kia Access App is now available on your smart watch. The 2023 Telluride can also receive over-the-air updates, which is a big advantage over competitors. Other features include a 4G LTE in-car WiFi hotspot that now supports up to five devices, stolen vehicle tracking that can immobilize the vehicle, smart speaker integration, a power lift gate, connected routing, and an optional digital mirror with HomeLink. Lastly, the 2023 Telluride adds even more advanced safety features to the 2022 model's already long list.
Another big improvement in the 2023 Telluride is the addition of the X-Line and X-Pro off-road trim levels. The X-Line takes the style of the X-Pro without its off-road capability, with an exclusive grille design, 20-inch rims, bridge roof rails, paint-color door handles, and X-Line badges. Inside, there are new interior color packages and X-Line insignias on the front seat upper backrests. The X-Line does have a few performance upgrades, including better approach and departure angles, a higher ground clearance, an improved traction control system, and a new tow mode.
The more rugged X-Pro replaces the SX Prestige at the top of the Telluride's trim lineup, and includes all of the X-Line's features with the exception of the X-Line badges. For better off-road performance, the X-Pro adds 18-inch wheels with Continental all-terrain tires, and has a larger towing capacity that rises from 5,000 pounds to 5,500 pounds. There is also a new 110-volt inverter outlet located in the cargo area.
Kia has improved the Telluride in all of the right areas, with an even more luxurious cabin, more advanced technology, new colors, and the rugged X-Line and X-Pro trims. Pricing and an official release date will be announced closer to launch. You can see the new and improved Telluride for yourself at the New York International Auto Show this week.
Would you be willing wait for the 2023 Telluride when it arrives later in the year?
