FCA To Produce Three New SUVs In Poland Factory

Writer: TurbochargedTurbocharged

Fiat Chrysler has just confirmed that their Tychy factory in Poland will build three new SUVs under the Alfa Romeo, Fiat, and Jeep brands with production beginning in the second half of 2022. FCA is also looking to retool and improve the plant for these new models. Each model will either be a hybrid or full EV.

We have a few ideas of what Alfa Romeo's new SUV will be. It is most likely the Tonale crossover, which was previewed in concept form at the Geneva Motor Show. It will be a welcome addition to the aging lineup and can offer more space and luxury than the Stelvio. We are assuming that this will be a hybrid, if it is to be built at this facility. Alfa Romeo is also planning a small, all-electric crossover called the 'Brennero'. Rumors claim that the SUV being built in the Tychy factory will share its platform with PSA Groupe vehicles, meaning that this will be the first FCA model to share resources with PSA under the new merger. It is too early to know which crossover is being mentioned here.

As for Fiat, their upcoming 500XL crossover is obviously the one being built at the Tychy factory. It will replace the 500X and now-discontinued 500L SUVs. The 500X is manufactured in Italy, but when the 500X is discontinued, Fiat will no longer be building vehicles in Italy since the 500 hatchback is assembled at Tychy. Jeep's new SUV is apparently a replacement for the Renegade subcompact crossover, so 2021 is probably its last model year. The Renegade is built alongside the 500X in Italy, so the switch makes sense.

These three new SUVs are very good news for the failing FCA, and the almost-finished Stellantis merger makes things even better. The 500XL, Renegade replacement, and Tonale (or Brennero) crossovers will be built alongside the new Fiat 500 and Lancia Ypsilon in 2022.
