Ford Explorer Getting Two New Trims For 2021

Writer: TurbochargedTurbocharged

The Ford Explorer has always been a hit, but sales started to drop in 2019. In fact, sales went down 26 percent that year. Ford wants to fix that with two new trims, Timberline and King Ranch, for the 2021 model year.

The Ford Explorer Timberline has already been spotted with no camouflage, and it is with no doubt a more rugged trim level. It is like the Explorer's take on the Raptor nameplate, with orange accents, higher foglight vents, bigger wheels, and a different grille. Also, a badge on the Explorer's tailgate indicates that the Timberline will be all wheel drive. The interior will probably be brown or black with leather or wood accents, if it follows the footsteps of the Ranger and F-150 Tremor. We expect the Timberline to arrive within the next month or so.

The King Ranch trim, already popular with the F-150, will be fitting for the Explorer since the Expedition SUV and F Series trucks wear offer that trim as well. The King Ranch variant will most likely slot above or below the Limited trim level. It will offer more luxurious features on the inside, and we also expect a new exterior or interior color of some sort to debut on the King Ranch, in order to to differentiate it from the other trim levels. The exterior could see some minor changes, as seen on other models. Previous King Ranch vehicles had bronze bumpers, but we doubt that will happen this time. The King Ranch might arrive with the Timberline, or at least around the same timeframe.
