The Ford Fusion debuted in 2006 to replace the Contour sedan, being refreshed in 2010 and redesigned in 2013. It was also tweaked for the 2017 and 2019 model years. But now, the Fusion is gone for good. Its Lincoln cousin, the MKZ is also dead. The Taurus, Focus, Fiesta and C-Max were already discontinued last year, so the Fusion has been given some extra time.
The last Ford sedan was supposed to come off the assembly line on July 21st, but delays pushed the date back to July 31st. The only non-SUV/pickup left is the Mustang, which isn't going anywhere.
Sales were okay for about a decade, but have slowed down within the past few years. The Bronco Sport will replace it at the factory, and the Mondeo (European Fusion) will also be dropped. The Fusion, MKZ and Mondeo should all be replaced by a Subaru Outback competitor.
Ford's final sedan was a good one. Sedan buyers will have to turn to Hyundai, Chevrolet, Kia, Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen, etc. Bye-bye, Fusion.
Aw, bye-bye Fusion.
