After taking the wraps off the 1,817-hp Venom F5 coupe just last year, Hennessey has unveiled a droptop version of its crazy fast hypercar at Monterey Car Week. The Venom F5 Roadster will be making its official debut at The Quail on August 19th.
When it comes to mechanical bits, the Roadster is almost identical to the coupe, with the same mid-mounted, twin-turbo 6.6 liter V8 producing an unchanged 1,817 horsepower and 1,193 lb-ft of torque. Top speed is said to surpass the 300 mph mark, which breaks the Venom GT Spyder's record of 265.5 miles per hour.
The only visual difference in the Venom F5 Roadster is its lack of a roof, though there is a removable panel made of carbon fiber composite, lined with Alcantara upholstery on the inside. The panel only weighs 18 pounds, so it won't affect the vehicle's performance, and its lightweight material makes installation easy. It can be stored in a Merino wool travel bag, or on a carbon fiber pedestal inspired by the Venom F5.
The Roadster also has a new tempered glass window for viewing the engine, capable of withstanding temperatures of over 1,000 degrees. This piece is usually utilized for jet engines.
At 3,100 pounds, the Venom F5 Roadster can be considered lightweight, though it's 102 pounds heavier than the coupe due to the added roof components. Hennessey will build 30 units for a starting price of $3 million, with each tailored and customized to its owner's liking. Prospective buyers should move fast, since all 24 examples of the coupe version sold out shortly after its Monterey debut last year.
