Honda Insight Dropped From Lineup In Favor Of Civic Hybrid

Honda has announced that it will discontinue the Insight hybrid this June, following the announcement of a new Civic Hybrid. The brand has also confirmed a next-generation CR-V crossover for this year, and an updated Accord could be on the way soon after. When the Insight ends production, Honda will be able to focus on making hybrid variants of its most popular models, and its absence at the factory will free up space for CR-V and Civic production.

The current Insight was introduced in 2018, and has since sold around 70,000 units. The hybrid sedan was based on the 10th generation Civic, though it offered few advantages over its best-selling sibling. With the announcement of an 11th generation Civic Hybrid, it makes sense for Honda to save money and drop the less popular option. With the Insight gone, the automaker will be able to put more effort into electrifying its lineup.

Along with the new Civic Hybrid and redesigned CR-V, Honda also said that it would introduce a new Accord Hybrid. Since the Accord already offers a hybrid powertrain, this could mean that a new generation is coming for the midsize sedan. The outgoing version went on sale for the 2018 model year and received a small update in 2021, so it might be about time for an overhaul.
