Honda Previews The Next-Gen CR-V's Cleaner Cabin

Honda's best-selling CR-V crossover is beginning to show its age, as its current generation first launched in 2016. We know that this year is set to be chock full of new models from the automaker, and we've already seen the wraps come off the refreshed HR-V and Passport SUVs. Now, Honda is giving us a sneak peek of the redesigned 2023 CR-V and its fresh Civic-inspired interior.

Honda Previews The Next-Gen CR-V's Cleaner Cabin

When it was released, the 11th-generation Civic received endless praise for its clean, modern dash, and we've already seen Honda carry the successful layout into the new HR-V. Now that the CRV's interior has been revealed, we know that the compact crossover will also gain an interior that's pretty much identical to the small sedan's. However, there are differences in the center console, where the shifter is located on the right, whereas it is positioned on the left side in the Civic. When compared to the outgoing CR-V, we can see that Honda has ditched the wonky electronic shifter in favor of a more traditional knob. Other small changes include the more SUV-like door panels and red contrast stitching on the steering wheel and seats. The latter could be exclusive to a higher trim, possibly the rugged Trailsport variant that other Honda crossovers now offer.

Another interesting detail that Honda noted was an even more spacious cabin, which would be expanding on the current CR-V's segment-leading interior dimensions. The changes won't end with the redesigned interior, though, as the crossover's exterior will also be getting a cleaner look and new color options. Engines could be carried over, but with more of a reliance on electrification for improved efficiency.

When it makes its debut on July 12, the 2023 CR-V will represent yet another new model being released during Honda's "Year of the SUV." Completing the crossover onslaught, a completely redesigned Pilot three-row is expected to arrive later this year. It should pack more features than ever before as it looks to become a fierce rival to the Kia Telluride. A next-generation Accord sedan and refreshed Civic Type R hot hatch are also coming soon.

Do you think the next CR-V will be able to reach the top of its highly competitive segment?
