Hyundai created the Palisade crossover to fit bigger families and slot above the Santa Fe. Lately, both Hyundai and Kia have been talking about larger SUVs to compete with tougher vehicles like the Toyota Land Cruiser and Chevy Tahoe ZL1. Hyundai says they aren't afraid to try to disrupt segments that other automakers dominate. Cars like the i30 N and Veloster have successfully broken into GTI territory, and the new Tucson challenges segment stars like the Mazda CX-5, Nissan Rogue, and Toyota RAV4. The same could happen with off-road SUVs.

One reason that makes a more rugged Hyundai SUV possible is their upcoming Santa Cruz pickup truck. That would make the development of a ladder-frame platform a bit easier. Also, the powerful new six-cylinder engine from the Genesis GV80 could carry over.

We have yet to see a confirmed model to enter the large SUV segment, but considering how far they've gone with other models, we could see it happen.
