Hyundai Sonata, Palisade To Be Facelifted Next Year

A document during a presentation has revealed Hyundai's worldwide future model plans up until 2022. The Hyundai Palisade, much like the Kia Telluride, finally brought a real family three-row competitor into the segment. The addition of the luxurious Calligraphy flagship trim level raises the bar even more. The Hyundai Sonata was mostly a bland midsize sedan that fit in with the other cars in the parking lot. A 2020 redesign changed that. But it seems that both relatively new models are receiving facelifts next year.

We don't know when they are coming, and what exactly is going to change, but they are coming around the same time as the redesigned ix35 crossover and Grandeur flagship sedan. Both of those vehicles sadly aren't bound for the US just yet. Another pleasant surprise is that the reveal of the speedy Elantra N is imminent, since that model appears in the '2021' column. We have been eager to see the extreme performance sedan ever since it began to pay constant visits to the Nurburgring. The document says Avante N, which is the Elantra in Asia. Also, an i20 N and i20 crossover version are coming to Europe, and a mystery CUV appeared on thew document too, but we expect it to be the tiny AX-1 crossover for India.

In the EV/hybrid section, we can spot a new Mistra EV, which will be sold exclusively in China. Another China-only plug-in hybrid is on its way, too, as well as a hybrid version of the next-generation Grandeur/Azera. Additionally, the Ioniq 6 electric sedan is set for 2022. It will be based on the Prophecy Concept, which featured a sleek, low profile and a futuristic cabin. We don't know how much it will change from the concept version, but we hope it ends up as close as the Ioniq 5 crossover is to the 45 Concept. Speaking of the Ioniq 5, it is set for Europe and Asia this year, and a US launch should be soon too.

Genesis also made an appearance on the document, revealing that the anticipated GV70 compact luxury crossover is gaining an electric variant for 2022. The new eG80 is set for later in 2021, and prototypes for an electric GV80 have surfaced, but it probably isn't coming until much later, since it isn't present on the future product portfolio. The all-new electric coupe SUV, apparently called the eGV60, is likely coming very soon, since 'CUV EV' is seen in the Genesis column. The redesigned G90 flagship sedan is also coming later this year, and will give fresher competition to Audi and Mercedes.

It is good to see Hyundai refreshing, adding and replacing models across their lineup, and the future looks exciting for both Hyundai and its luxury arm, Genesis.
