Hyundai Tucson Adds Rugged XRT Trim Level

The 2022 Hyundai Tucson already offers a diverse variety of powertrains and trim levels. You can opt for the fuel-efficient hybrid, even more eco-friendly PHEV, performance-oriented N Line, or just the standard Tucson. However, an off-road variant is still missing... or was. Hyundai introduces the Tucson XRT, and though it won't take your family off the charts, it does add a more rugged look to this already-interesting crossover. Based on the Tucson SEL Convenience trim level, you'll find many of the usual features found on the standard Tucson, with added XRT flair.

That added XRT flair includes extensive black plastic cladding on the front and rear fenders, as well as the side skirts. The front and rear bumpers are slightly different from the standard Tucson, and feature XRT detailing. Blacked-out monotone exterior mirrors match the darkened window trim and 19" alloy wheels. Approach lighting lights the way for the occupants as they enter the vehicle, while side steps mimic larger off-road SUVs. Tall cross rails on the roof help carry excess luggage on long hauls, and a tow hitch is available for light towing. Inside, black is the sole interior color to match the black headliner.

The Tucson XRT should be arriving at dealers soon, with a starting price of $32,625 with the FWD drivetrain. Adding the optional HTRAC all-wheel drive system brings the price up to $34,125. Pricing includes the $1,225 destination charges.

Is the rugged styling of the XRT worth the price?
