Infiniti Developing A New Crossover To Slot Between QX50 And QX60

During Infiniti's dealer conference last week, it told dealers that it would be adding a new crossover to its lineup around 2025. It will be larger than the QX50 compact, but smaller than the QX60 three-row, which categorizes it as a midsize SUV. This means it will compete in a very popular segment that includes the Genesis GV80, Lexus RX, Mercedes GLE, and BMW X5.

This upcoming SUV will be based on the newly redesigned QX60, though it will only have two rows of seats. A report from Automotive News claims that Infiniti will primarily be aiming for empty nesters with this crossover, since the rest of the SUV lineup already takes care of younger buyers with families. Competitors like the Lincoln Nautilus and Lexus RX take up a fair share of the older consumer base, and Infiniti likely wants to extend its lineup to more types of buyers.

Expect the new model to look very similar to the QX60 it is based on inside and out, as Infiniti moves towards a new design direction. We are almost positive that this new crossover will offer a hybrid powertrain, assuming that a full gas version will be available at that point, paired with the same 9-speed automatic.

Infiniti also showed dealers a redesigned QX80 and its first electric model at the meeting, though not much is known about either model. The new QX80 should take inspiration from the QX60 in terms of exterior design, and we're hoping for a way more luxurious experience inside than in the outgoing version. As for Infiniti's first EV, it will be a sleek sedan produced at Nissan's factory in Canton, Mississippi. It is slated to start production in 2025, alongside its Nissan counterpart.

Aside from the new QX60, Infiniti's current lineup is in dire need of a revamp, and it looks like the Japanese brand is taking full advantage of the EV revolution to bring itself back to its former glory.

Do you think Infiniti will make it to 2025 before the new SUV arrives?
