The Buick Regal has a very long history and has evolved dramatically. The performance-geared GS trim was introduced in 2011, while the Sportback and TourX wagon arrived in 2018. But, the whole Regal lineup has just been officially discontinued. All that remains are the Encore, Encore GX, Envision, and Enclave crossovers. The LaCrosse large sedan and Cascada convertible were axed last year.
The Regal suffered slow sales, with SUVs and crossover making up for a whopping 90% of sales. But, this isn't the only factor. A problem between GM and PSA Groupe also ensured the Regal's death. GM sold their European Opel/Vauxhall brand to PSA Groupe (Peugeot) in 2017, and Opel still has the Insignia sedan on their lineup, which is a rebadged Regal. So, GM's purchase of the Regal's design, powertrain, etc., has ended. The Regal name will live on in China, and its design will remain in Europe with the Opel Insignia.
Any buyers eyeing the Regal should buy one now, while it is still in stock. Discounts could also be available. Next year, sedan buyers will have to avoid Buick, along with Ford and Lincoln, as they no longer offer sedans.
