Jaguar Announces That They Are Going To Go Fully Electric By 2025

It doesn't come as a surprise that Jaguar will eventually have to transition to electric cars in order to stay relevant. But, we didn't realize how quickly the automaker plans to do so. Jaguar will transition to a fully electric brand by 2025. Land Rover will remain as is, but all of their models will offer an electric variant by 2030. Even further ahead in 2039, JLR plans to be a net-zero carbon company. This series of goals is what Jaguar calls "Reimagine".

But, this announcement does not come without compromises and cancellations. To our disappointment, Jaguar has officially scrapped the all-electric 2022 XJ sedan. It doesn't exactly make sense for JLR to announce that they are going electric and then cancel a future EV, but we still have other Jaguar EVs to look forward to. According to patent leaks, we should be getting an updated version of the I-Pace electric crossover, and hydrogen fuel-cell prototypes will replace JLR's diesel offerings by 2026.

JLR's new CEO said in a statement that "Jaguar Land Rover is unique in the global automotive industry. The Reimagine strategy allows us to enhance and celebrate that uniqueness like never before." The British automaker also turned away pervious rumors, saying that they will not close down any of their main factories. The company's executive and major management workers are moving to one main facility in Gaydon, England as well.

Lastly, JLR's CEO stated that the company is recovering from recent financial troubles that seemed to put the Jaguar brand and other future plans in doubt. We are happy that Jaguar is finally finding their real place in the automotive industry, despite the cancellation of the XJ and other previous setbacks.
