The future seemed bleak for Jaguar sedans after the British automaker phased out the XJ flagship sedan. Not long after, the compact XE was axed in the US. We thought that Jaguar might finish what they were doing and discontinue the XF as well, especially after the loss of the XF Sportbrake wagon.
It turns out we were wrong, as Jaguar recently claimed that there is a 90-day waiting list for the luxury sedan. Not only that, but the automaker stated that most of those customers are willing to wait this long. So, why is the XF suddenly gaining popularity? First of all, the XF is the only non-SUV Jaguar model left, so any loyal Jaguar customers that truly want a sedan have no other choice. Another reason would be that the XF received a major upgrade last year. It now offers a more compelling package with a turbocharged 2.0 liter 4-cylinder as its sole engine option. Between its two available trim levels, you'll get either 247 or 296 horsepower out of that 4-cylinder.
The Jaguar XF also includes most of what its German rivals offer, but for almost ten grand less. Its $45,300 starting price, which is affordable for a luxury car, massively undercuts the $54,000-ish price tags of the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes E-Class, and Audi A6. In other words, the XF's bargain pricing is basically a magnet, attracting more frugal luxury buyers to dealers. We're glad to see a rise in interest for Jaguar's last remaining sedan, as it's a sign that the British luxury sedan isn't dead yet.
Would you buy an XF over its German rivals?
