You're probably unfamiliar with the Busan Motor Show, and we don't blame you. The Korean auto show has slowly been falling apart in recent years, with the number of automakers attending reduced to just six this year, including Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, BMW, Mini, and Rolls-Royce. Coincidentally, they are part of just two major auto groups, BMW and Hyundai.

Many automakers, including Mercedes and Renault, have recently withdrawn from the show without any specific reason. But with costs becoming a big priority for many companies, smaller auto shows are being phased out in favor of more well-known venues. An auto industry official commented that the show organizers "should make it more attractive" to avoid closing down for good. "Taking a look at globally famous motor shows in the world, they are trying to focus more on the electric car industry in order to keep attracting global car brands," the official told Korea Times.

The slow death of the Busan Motor Show isn't anything new, either. Back in 2018, a mere 19 automakers made their appearances at the show. Only 11 out of that number were foreign. If this Korean motor show makes it to 2023, the only company that would be most likely to attend would be Hyundai, since this is its home market. Here's to hoping that BMW Group continues to attend.

While Hyundai did choose the Busan Motor Show as the venue for the big reveal of its Ioniq 6 electric sedan, the future for this show seems grim.
