Nissan's Stylish New Ariya EV Arrives

Nissan's current EV, the LEAF hatchback, never caught on. The Ariya definitely will, though. With its unique styling and futuristic interior, it looks nothing like a Nissan. Yet, it is. Their new Tesla Model Y fighter has arrived with a $40,000 MSRP and 2021 arrival. Although its performance falls short of Tesla's offering, the styling totally knocks it out of the park.

The new design represents a new "Timeless Futurism" philosophy. The 3D closed off grille, sharp LED headlights, clean dashboard and futuristic lines make it seem like a concept car on the road. The only distinctive Nissan design cue is the V-Motion grille, though you can hardly tell. The interior's vast amount of space is due to the battery under the floor. The climate-control system is located where the engine would be, freeing up valuable space. The 12.3" screen includes a voice recognition system. It also includes over-the-air updates to software.

66 kWh and 90 kWh battery sizes are available with AWD/e4ORCE. FWD models include 87 kWh batteries. Range estimates have not been announced.

Prices start at $40,000, and it could come in late 2021 as a 2022 model. It might be one of the first threatening competitors to Tesla.
