One Of The First Jointly-Developed Stellantis Models Has Been Confirmed

Stellantis is relatively new, and is already taking advantage of the fact that they have many automakers to deal with. The first vehicle to be developed by several brands is a small crossover that will wear the Jeep, Fiat, and Alfa Romeo badges. The next model is a hatchback-like crossover that will be based on the recently-revealed DS 4, which will be sold by the Alfa Romeo and Lancia brands.

DS's product director confirmed that a jointly-developed model is coming. "We are working with our Italian colleagues on specific premium modules, powertrains, and features to differentiate the premium brands from the mainstream brands." The automotive giant has admitted that it will take a while to get this new car to production. In fact, we won't see any DS-inspired cars coming from Lancia or Alfa Romeo until at least 2023. Right now, Stellantis is working on more important matters, such as the Maserati Grecale and Alfa Romeo Tonale.

This will largely benefit Alfa Romeo, since they only have two models on sale in the US, and one is an SUV; the Stelvio. Alfa sales have also been decreasing, so a new crossover and the upcoming Tonale should be enough to save the brand once again. Lancia, on the other hand, needs a crossover badly. They have shrunken so much that they only sell their one model, the old Ypsilion hatchback, in Italy. The Ypsilion has been given a small facelift, but that is not much of an improvement. Also, this gives the automaker the opportunity to bring back the legendary Delta nameplate.

The new Stellantis merger will help many struggling automakers under its umbrella, like Lancia, Chrysler, Fiat, and Maserati, get back to their golden days.
