Polestar 6 Electric Roadster Confirmed For 2026 Launch

Earlier this year, Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath said that he wanted to make a production version of the O2 electric roadster concept, after it debuted in March 2022. Today, the Swedish company has confirmed that our dreams of a production O2 have come true, with a new model called Polestar 6 set to arrive in 2026.

The automaker decided to give the electric droptop the green light after receiving "overwhelming consumer and press response." The 6 will ride on Polestar's bonded aluminum chassis, which will also be underpinning the upcoming Polestar 5 grand tourer. Since it is positioned above the Polestar 5, the Polestar 6 will likely serve as the brand's halo model. The roadster will also utilize the 5's 800-volt electric architecture, producing outputs of 884 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque. This allows for a hasty sprint from 0-60 in just 3.2 seconds, and a top speed of 155 miles per hour. Even more performance details will be released closer to the 6's launch in 2026.

It is typical of Polestar's vehicles to stay very close to their concept version in terms of styling. The 6 will continue this trend, and is expected to stay very similar to the O2 concept. This also means that it will not only share its underpinnings with the Polestar 5, but it will also be sharing come design cues with the all-electric four-door.

To celebrate the arrival of the production roadster, Polestar will build a limited-edition model called the "LA Concept," capped at 500 units. It will wear special design cues from the O2, including its Sky blue exterior, white leather interior, and 21-inch wheels.

The launch of this new Polestar 6 might be a bit far off, but the automaker seems pretty eager about it, as customers in all regions can reserve their 6 starting today. "We took the decision to put this stunning roadster into production and I am so excited to make it a reality," said company boss Thomas Ingenlath. "Polestar 6 is a perfect combination of powerful electric performance and the thrill of fresh air with the top down."

Meanwhile, the Polestar O2 concept will be showcased at Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance and The Quail from August 18-21.
