Porsche Is Looking To Fight The BMW 8 Series

Porsche recently released a mid-cycle refresh for their Panamera sport sedan, and it set a Nurburgring lap record. So far, the sedan and wagon variants were revealed, but apparently, a coupe and convertible are in the works. With the sedan's record-setting 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8, the upcoming coupe and convertible versions will be able to compete with the BMW 8 Series, as well as the Mercedes SL, Audi RS5, Aston Martin Vantage, and Lexus RC F.

So far, the Panamera never offered a Panamera coupe, so we don't know what to expect. Thomas Friemuth, the sedan's production line chief, says, "We have not finally decided yet. So we are just discussing this topic for several years as you can imagine since other competitors also have two-door cars. Be we're not finally yet ready to decide whether to do this or not. We have quite a nice two-door car in our program called the 911. We are always looking at new opportunities to get new markets and more customers. I can talk about it when we have the decision for it - not yet. I have a lot of ideas."

So, if this model does arrive, t will share almost everything with the Panamera sedan; a shortened version of its platform, styling cues, interior components, and powertrains. The 928 successor won't exactly cut into the sales of the 91 and 718, since it will be be two-door layout with four seats, meaning it will be larger.

We aren't expecting this model, since Porsche has many more important models and plans for the future, but it's something to think about.
