Porsche Taycan Adds Fun New Colors For 2022

Porsche's Taycan is the automaker's first EV, and it's a worthy Tesla Model S competitor to say the least. For 2022, Porsche has added some (more) fun to their electric grand tourer for the new year, and anyone who loved the colors on the 911 sports car thirty years ago are in for a treat.

The German automaker is getting back to its roots when it comes to the paint job you choose for your Porsche model, thanks to Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur. You'll find 17 new standard exterior colors added to the palette. Available are Paint to Sample and Paint to Sample Plus for 2022, the former of which bringing 63 additional colors like Viola Metallic, Moonlight Blue, Acid Green, Rubystone Red, and Riviera Blue. Paint to Sample Plus is where things really get overwhelming, as Porsche will allow you to choose virtually any color for your Taycan, and you can even match it up with your favorite Porsche accessory.

Technology and range have been enhanced as well. WLTP range ratings won't rise, Porsche says, as the 2022 Taycan won't be tested separately from the 2021 version. But, real-world range will improve within "day-to-day use." Normal and Range AWD driving modes see the front electric motor almost fully separate from the partial load range. When the Taycan is off, no power is given to either motor. When more power is wanted, the motors will turn back on within milliseconds. The Taycan's high-voltage battery can now be set at a higher temperature as well, allowing fast charging at an earlier rate.

As for technology, the Taycan can now park by itself via Remote Park Assist. You can access the new feature through your smartphone on the Porsche Connect app. Remote Park Assist allows your Taycan to park either in and out of parking spaces on demand. It can automatically park in both parallel and perpendicular spaces, as well as your garage. Porsche says the system can detect available parking spots by its ultrasonic sensors and cameras. To manage the parking process, simply press and hold a button on Porsche Connect, and the vehicle will take over the steering, forward, and reverse functions. Upon releasing the button, the vehicle immediately comes to a halt. You don't have to exit the car for Remote Park Assist to work either; you can activate Remote Park Assist, and then step out of the car afterwards.

Porsche's PCM infotainment now supports Android Auto for 2022, and it's coming to the upgraded Taycan. The system is compatible with most Android/Google smartphones, and Android Auto can be controlled in your Taycan by its infotainment display or new Google Assistant voice controls. Speaking of, Porsche's own Voice Pilot assistant has been tweaked in the new Taycan to better understand your everyday language. Apple CarPlay is now fully supported on the PCM operating system as well, after only previously including Apple Music and Podcasts. Your 2022 Taycan will be able to pair with most iPhones. Other updates seen in the Taycan's PCM infotainment include a slightly faster navigation system, more options on the menu, and several layout changes.

These quite extensive changes apply to both the standard Taycan sedan and the Cross Turismo wagon, and 2022 models become available next month.
