Porsche Unveils One-Off 911 Sally Special As 'Cars' Character Turns 20

Porsche and Pixar Animations have teamed up to create a very special one-off 911 that commemorates the 20th anniversary of Sally Carrera. This unique Porsche will be auctioned off for charity at RM Sotheby's on August 20th as part of Monterey Car Week.

The project was brought to life last November when the team behind the Cars franchise, who designed Sally Carrera and later created a life-size version, began working with Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur and the designers from Style Porsche. The two firms worked together over the course of ten months, and hence we have the 911 Sally Special.

“We had great fun creating 911 Sally Special and it's the first time we've worked on a project of this kind. We decided early on that we wanted to create a completely drivable 911 – inspired by Sally Carrera, but just not an exact copy. Sally Carrera loves to drive – that was our inspiration," said Jay Ward, the Creative Director of Franchise of Pixar Animation Studios. "We asked ourselves: if Sally were built today as a road-approved model, what would she look like?"

If the end result is any indication, Sally would look like a slightly modified 911 Carrera GTS in Sally Blue Metallic paint, which was developed exclusively for this special edition. Even though this isn't an exact 996 replica, the 992-generation Carrera GTS that we have here still exemplifies a clear reinterpretation of Sally.

Some other fun touches include Sally's tattoo, which is revealed when the spoiler is raised. The character's five-spoke 996 Turbo wheels have also been replicated, with 20-inch units in front and 21-inchers in back to accommodate the 992's updated proportions.

The exterior's Sally Blue Metallic paint has also found its way into the cabin, where is has been applied to the trim on the dashboard, doors, and center console. Parts of the seating and doors receive a special tri-color plaid fabric, while the remaining upholstery is made of white leather. There is also Speed Blue stitching found on the steering wheel. Just like the exterior, the interior receives a few special Sally-inspired touches, with 'Sally Carrera' badges on the rear quarter windows, 'Cars' badges on the door trim, and a sketch on the passenger side of the dashboard with text that reads "Sally Carrera 001/001" to show that this is a one-off car. Another enjoyable detail is found on a button below the right-side steering wheel spoke that usually says "Drive Mode." In the Sally Special, it recalls Lightning McQueen's famous tagline and reads "Kachow! Mode" instead.

The Sally Carrera vibes even trickle down into the way this vehicle drives. Porsche selected its seven-speed manual for this special edition, in order to show Sally's passion for driving. Otherwise, this limited edition utilizes the same 3.0 liter turbocharged flat-six found in every other Carrera GTS, pumping out 473 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. To make this powertrain a little more exciting, one last Cars detail that takes inspiration from Lightning McQueen resides in the engine bay. A peek under the hood reveals a flashy graphic with a script that reads "GTS powered."

Porsche expects that the Sally Special will go for much more than the $142,600 Carrera GTS it's based on. The lucky owner will also receive a Sally-inspired watch, a car cover, an extra set of wheels for the track, and a scrapbook from Cars production designer Bob Pauley that demonstrates the tedious development process of this unique one-off 911. If you want to get an in-person look at the Sally Special, it will be on display in Monterey later this week.
