Nissan is finally bringing out new products, and the 2022 Frontier is arguably the most long-awaited. Well, here it is. All-new. The new Frontier brings in a bold new design, even bolder engine choices, and a nice array of technology features. Adopted from the design of the new 2021 Armada, the headlights are more square-shaped, and connect with the bigger, Titan-like grille. The straighter fenders and bumpers also add a tougher look to the new pickup. The taillights are also less conventional, breaking away from the vertical rectangle shape that GM has been using for years.

A new PRO-4X trim level offers LED fog lights and Lava Red accents inside and out. New color options include Tactical Green Metallic and Boulder Grey Pearl. The ride and handling has been greatly improved thanks to the refined chassis. Nissan boasts 80% less road vibration with the hydraulic cab mounts. Steering is said to be more responsive and controllable. The new rear stabilizer reduces body roll, too. This puts the old model's bouncy ride in hindsight.

Nissan updated the 2020 Frontier with a stronger 3.8-liter V6 engine, which has carried over to the 2022 model. That is no complaint. The V6 boosts horsepower up to 310, while bringing torque power up to 281 lb-ft. There is also a nine-speed automatic, so don't worry about any CVT's in this truck. All models get hill start assist, but 4WD models also get hill descend assist to assure full safety while prowling through the rough terrain. More off-road features include the PRO-4X's Bilstein off-road shocks, electronic locking differential, and underbody skid plates. Towing capacity is boosted to 6,720 pounds. The trailer-sway control is now standard in the 2022 Frontier. The high-utility bed option with the spray-on bedliner and Utili-Track technology will improve hauling cargo. The cargo area also can include LED lights.

The new interior isn't all-new, but there are still some remarkable changes. An all-new 8-inch touchscreen promises better features ands compatibility with standard Apple CarPlay (which offers Siri Eyes Free) and Android Auto. A 9-inch touchscreen is also available. More storage space is available in the revised center console, with several compartments, dual front USB ports, and two 110-volt outlets. Nissan's new Zero Gravity seats reduce fatigue and increase comfort levels on, or off, the road. The trucks's front-door acoustic laminated glass windows improve build quality and decrease road noise. Nissan keeps the extensive safety features coming with all-around protection from the Intelligent Around View Monitor, and eight airbags. Nissan Safety Shield 360 adds high-beam assist, improved lane departure warning, optional traffic sign recognition, and Intelligent cruise control.

Trim levels consist of S, SV, and the range-topping PRO-4X for 2022. Buyers are given many choices with a 2WD variant of the PRO-4X, King and Crew Cab versions, and 5- or 6-foot beds (the King Cab only offers the 6-foot bed as of 2022). The new Frontier is coming to a dealer near you this summer. Pricing will be announced closer to the on-sale date.
