Chevrolet Trax And Buick Encore To Be Discontinued After 2022

GM's two smallest crossovers, the Buick Encore and Chevy Trax, barely met consumer demand when they first released in 2013. Even in 2019, the duo represented the second and third most popular subcompact crossovers. Fast forward to 2022, and sales of both crossovers have been declining quickly. In just one model year, sales have dropped by 52% for the Encore and 60% for the Trax.

These concerning numbers have led some to believe that GM plans to drop the crossovers from their lineups after the 2022 model year. This doesn't come as a surprise, as buyers have been lured into the newer Chevrolet Trailblazer and Buick Encore GX as of late. They both offer more features and additional legroom for similar pricing. In fact, there is only a $400 difference between the Trax and Trailblazer, and the Buick Encore GX is actually $200 cheaper than the Encore. This is an absolute no-brainer for most consumers.

With GM's own products stealing sales from the Trax and Encore, it makes sense that it would want to discontinue the more slow-selling models. The company hasn't confirmed this decision, but with its recent focus on going electric, don't expect the Chevy Trax or Buick Encore to return for the 2023 model year.
