Two Kia Sedans Are Leaving The US For Good

We just knew this day would come, yet we're still sad to say it. Yes, the Kia Cadenza and K900 large sedans are goners in the US. The Kia K900 was a huge surprise for us when it arrived in 2019. It always reminded us of a Bentley in some way. It set its sights on buyers that were looking for fun features in a quality luxury sedan. The Cadenza, slightly smaller, had a similar mission. Both sedans didn't sell well at all, which is why they are not returning to the US for 2022.

Kia sold a mediocre 1,265 Cadenzas and a sad 305 K900's last year. Meanwhile, they sold 75,129 Tellurides during that same year. Another reason that Kia is taking the duo away from us is because the K900 finds itself competing with the Genesis G80 luxury sedan, which is also under the Hyundai umbrella. Also, Kia admitted in 2018 that the K900 was an experiment in the US.

The Cadenza competes with large FWD sedans like the Nissan Maxima and Toyota Avalon. But, Kia has watched the front-wheel drive sedan segment wither in the US market, as the Chevy Impala, Buick LaCrosse, Cadillac XTS, and Hyundai's own Azera have left. The brand previously hinted at the vehicle's discontinuation by saying that they are 'realigning' their model portfolio with more crossovers and less sedans.

Kia still sells its sporty K5 and Stinger, as well as the fun and affordable Forte and Rio, but after the K900 and Cadenza leave, Kia will no longer offer any luxury sedans in their US lineup. We will also miss out on the next-generation Cadenza, or K8, and facelifted K900 which are being revealed this year. So, if you are interested in a K900 or Cadenza, you should act fast.
