VinFast VF6 And VF7 Electric SUVs Make North American Debut In LA

Vietnamese EV startup VinFast has revealed the VF6 and VF6 electric SUVs at the Los Angeles auto show, which will slot below the existing VF8 two-row and VF9 three-row SUVs arriving soon. The VF6 and VF7 are expected to launch for the 2024 model year.

VinFast VF6

As the name suggests, the VF6 is the smaller of the two, measuring 166.9 inches. This is comparable to many of the other small electric SUVs out there. The VF6 features a distinctive exterior design with sharp yet restrained lines and the sleek V-shaped lighting elements seen on all VinFast models.

The VF6 features a very minimalistic cabin, much like the VF8 and VF9 that came before it, though much to our delight, the infotainment display is much smaller than what's found in the interiors of its relatives. The central screen replaces nearly all analog controls, and features wireless Apple Car Play and Android Auto, Alexa voice commands, and even an in-car karaoke feature. Ahead of the driver, there is no instrument cluster. In its place, the VF6 features a standard head-up display. Elsewhere, the cabin is available in either cloth or faux leather upholstery, as well as an optional panoramic sunroof.

A single electric motor on the front axle is the sole powertrain option, making 174 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque in the base Eco model. The Plus trim will raise those numbers to 201 horsepower and 228 lb-ft of torque. Battery specifications and charging rates will be announced later on.

VinFast VF7

The VF7 slots above the VF6, measuring 178.9 inches long. This compact SUV can be identified for its softer lines, taller and wider stance (compared to the VF6), and a trendy floating roof.

Of course, the VF7 will be larger than the VF6 on the inside, and that applies to the 15.6" central infotainment screen too. The interior appears to be more luxurious than its smaller counterpart, but there aren't many other differences beyond that, as the 7 includes all the same features as the 6.

The VF7 will be more powerful than the VF6, offering either single or dual electric motors. The base Eco makes 201 horsepower and 228 lb-ft of torque, which precisely matches the output made by the VF6's range-topping Plus. The VF7 Plus gets the dual-motor setup with all-wheel drive, producing 347 horsepower and 368 lb-ft of torque.

When Exactly Are The VF6 and VF7 Arriving In The US?

Don't expect the VF6 or VF7 to arrive until at least late 2023, as the company focuses on launching the larger VF8 and VF9. Despite the fact that it hasn't sold any models yet on US shores, six mall retail outlets has already been opened, with standalone sales and service centers are slated for the end of next year. All VinFast models will benefit from the automaker's generous 10-year or 125,000-mile warranty. Pricing for the VF6 and VF7 haven't yet been revealed, but expect them to start at around $30,000 and $35,000, respectively.
