Cadillac has teased the third installment for its expanding electric vehicle lineup, which currently consists of the Lyriq crossover and the Rolls-Royce-rivaling Celestiq sedan. This time around, Cadillac's latest EV will be based on an existing gas model, which is none other than the brand's flagship Escalade SUV. The battery-powered version will continue the recent naming scheme Cadillac is applying to its EVs, with an 'IQ' suffix slapped on next to the current Escalade badge.

The relationship between the gas and electric Escalades may be in name only, as common sense would suggest that the Escalade IQ will be based on GM's latest Ultium battery architecture. While nothing has been confirmed for this electric Escalade, rumors indicate it could have a battery capacity of around 150 kWh, paired with three electric motors for an output that exceeds 800 horsepower. Inevitably, a large EV like the Escalade IQ should tip the scales, coming in at roughly 8,000 pounds.
The Escalade IQ should be revealed later this year, likely arriving as a 2024 model year vehicle. According to statements from Cadillac earlier this year, the brand will be launching two additional EVs around the same time.
Do you agree with the pricier EVs coming first, or are you waiting for cheaper options?
