The year 2010 was the last time we saw Lexus give its boxy GX three-row a clean-slate redesign. Since then, the SUV has become one of the oldest vehicles still on sale, and as a result its outdated design and technology have become its main attraction. Thirteen years and a couple refreshes later, Lexus has finally shown us a glimpse of SUV's highly-anticipated next generation. Lexus marks it as a 2024 model year vehicle, meaning a reveal shouldn't be too far away.
Overall, the GX should appear way meaner-looking than before, if the squared-out wheel arches and bulges at the side of the hood are any indication. The latter feature is reminiscent the original Land Rovers, indicating that this next GX will be taking off-pavement performance seriously. The teaser image also reveals much slimmer headlights, which flow directly into the grille, which adopts much sharper edges and is likely to be much wider than before. We can also see a glimpse of the A-pillar, which appears thinner and more upright. Lexus also provided an image previewing the rear of the car, confirming that the current iteration's outdated taillight design will be supplanted by more stylish full-width lighting.
Lexus was skimpy on details, providing nothing but a teaser image and a message that read, "The all-new 2024 Lexus GX, coming soon." It has been rumored, however, that the next GX will ride on the TNGA-F platform that has already been used for the Toyota Sequoia, Tundra, and Lexus LX, all of which have also received long-overdue redesigns in the past year or so. The GX should also follow Toyota's trend of dropping the V8 engine, opting instead for a new hybridized twin-turbo V6.
